About Troop 78

More than 60 Eagle Scouts since 1960
50 plus years of scouting!

Troop Background
We are a small, boy-led troop right in the heart of Nazareth Pennsylvania!  Troop 78 has been around for over 50 years, and has a long, proud history of producing Eagle Scouts.  On average, our roster of boys typically fluctuates between 20 and 30 scouts each year, aged 11 through 17.  As a boy-led troop, we offer scouts opportunities to get hands-on experience in leading and doing activities as they progress up the ranks of scouting.

Troop Activities
Troop 78 offers diverse activities, all of which aim to develop young men into good citizens who function well as team members but who can also stand out as good leaders.

All activities are chosen and voted upon by the scouts in the Troop.  We try to have one camping trip, and a separate outing each month of the year, and are only off from the end of Summer Camp in July through the beginning of the school year in September.  We are fortunate to have a wide variety of camping options to choose from.  Some camping trips are focused on achieving a merit badge, such as Orienteering.

Joining Requirements

Interested in learning more about Scouting?  The best way is to join in on the fun!

The requirements to join Troop 78 are the same as with any Boy Scout Troop.  We can help with every step of the way.

  1. Meet the age requirements. Be a boy who is 11 years old, or one who has completed the fifth grade or earned the Arrow of Light Award and is at least 10 years old, but is not yet 18 years old.
  2. Find a Scout troop near your home (That's us!)
  3. Complete a Boy Scout application and health history signed by your parent or guardian.  (We can help with this!)
  4. Repeat the Pledge of Allegiance.
  5. Demonstrate the Scout sign, salute, and handshake.
  6. Demonstrate tying the square knot (a joining knot).
  7. Understand and agree to live by the Scout Oath, Scout Law, motto, and slogan, and the Outdoor Code.
  8. Describe the Scout badge.
  9. Complete the pamphlet exercises. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide.
  10. Participate in a Scoutmaster conference.
