Organization:

The Boy Scouts of America is a national organization broken into Councils and Districts. Our area is part of the Gray Arrow District within the California Inland Empire Council (CIEC).

The BSA has issued a charter to the Lions Club of Beaumont authorizing them to use the scouting program to further their service to our community.

Our group is organized as a Pack and two Troops.
The Pack is for boys and girls in kindergarten - 5th grade. Scouts are grouped into Dens by their age/grade in school.
Troop 70B is for young men in 6th - 12th grades and Troop 70G is for young women in 6th - 12th grades. Both troops are separated into Patrols generally by age but sometimes also by scouting experience.

Dens meet weekly and all come together at a Pack meeting once a month. At those weekly den meetings scouts will be led through many adventures all toward earning rank, expanding their knowledge base and having fun. Our Rank Information page has links for each age group that explain what the scouts accomplish in each rank. At the monthly pack meeting scouts are recognized for their achievements and presented with awards, patches, and rank.

Patrols meet weekly to discuss the current agendas of each patrol (may it be merit badges, working on rank, or planning service projects or campouts, etc). The Troop comes together monthly for various reasons such as Patrol Leaders Council, Planning Meetings, and quarterly for Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is when troop-aged scouts are recognized for their achievements and awarded their merit badges and badges of rank.

Cub Scouting (the Pack) is parent-led, meaning that while our purpose is for the scouts we realize that they are children and parents and leaders plan the activities.

Scouts BSA (the Troops) are scout-led, meaning that the scouts decide what they want to work on within the realm of their ranks, merit badge options, leadership opportunities, and other activities. The adult leaders provide guidance to make sure that the scouts stay on track, answer questions, and offer expertise and training in certain skills.

We have a Pack and Troop Committee that meets monthly to discuss all of the upcoming events and works together to plan them and handle the business of running the pack. The Committee is headed by our Committee Chair and includes several registered leaders. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend the meetings and participate in the discussions. The more involved the parent, the more the scout will get out of the program. Our Pack and Troop leadership structure is detailed here. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities, both large and small, for the parents of our scouts to take on. If you are interested in taking on a position, talk to your Den Leader, Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, a committee member, or email familypack70@gmail.com.

Activities:

In addition to weekly den meetings and monthly pack meetings, Pack 70 puts on events and activities all year long, including:
  • Summer day camp
  • Summer & Winter sleep-away camps (Camp Wiley & Polar Camp for Cubs, Camp Emerson & Klondike Camp for Troops) for scouts and parents
  • Pack camp outs for the whole family
  • Pinewood Derby
  • Raingutter Regatta
  • Scouting for Food
  • Adventure Weekend at the San Bernadino County Sheriff's Rodeo
  • Eerie Emerson (Halloween-themed campout)
  • Blue & Gold Banquet (annual pack dinner and awards)
  • Hiking our local trails

  • Cubmobile
  • Parades in Beaumont, Banning, and Redlands
  • Volunteer community service in partnership with our chartered organization the Lions Club of Beaumont
  • Field trips within the dens and as a pack
.... And so much more!

Fundraising:

How do we accomplish all of this without breaking the bank? We fund raise. We know that our scouts are bombarded with fundraising opportunities year-round for their schools, but in scouting we participate in just one single fundraiser to help prevent us from having to ask families for extra money at every turn for each scouting activity.

"Paying your own way" is a fundamental principle of the Boy Scouts of America. It is one of the reasons why no solicitations (requests for contributions from individuals or the community) are permitted by Cub Scout packs. Young people in Scouting are taught early on that if they want something in life, they need to earn it. Pack 70 requires families to pay annual dues, but we also provide a way for the scouts to earn the money and pay their dues. Annual dues for Pack 70 are $150 which pays for the following: national registration fee, subscription to Boys' Life magazine, program materials (funds for the den leader to buy materials to lead the adventures), Pinewood Derby kit, Raingutter Regatta kit, advancement materials (for recognizing and awarding scout accomplishments), leader training, and a small portion to our pack reserve fund.

By participating in the BSA's popcorn campaign through Trail's End, scouts will have no problem earning their own funds to pay their way in scouting. Hardworking scouts can earn enough to pay for camps, prepaid cards to use at the council scout shop, and participate in the Trail's End scholarship program.
